Utilizing Travel To Expose High School Students To Life Beyond Their Comfort Zones

We believe the world is the greatest classroom. We take students beyond borders—not just for a break, but for a breakthrough. From industry conferences in global cities to curated cultural retreats, we expose youth to careers, passions, and possibilities that can’t be found in a textbook. Through immersive travel experiences, global events, and hands-on industry exposure, we help students connect with their purpose, explore career paths, and expand their worldview.

🏕️ Retreats with Purpose

Our retreats are intentionally designed to guide students through self-exploration, goal setting, and connection to purpose. We ask bold questions—like “Who am I?” and “Where am I going?”—and give students the space to find their answers.

🛂 Passport To The World

Before our students board a plane, we help them take the first—and often most powerful—step: getting their passport. For many, it’s their first form of ID, their first major accomplishment, and their first symbol of possibility. Through our Passport Program, we eliminate financial and logistical barriers by covering application costs and walking students and parents through the process. Because before they can explore the world, they have to believe it’s theirs to explore.

Youth Reflections

I wanted to write a letter to thank you all for providing me with an opportunity to not only receive a passport but also to give me a ticket to explore the world. When I came across your Passport program, I was going through a bit of pandemic fatigue; to cure it I frequently looked at travel lifestyle videos on Youtube or TikTok, hoping that I could one day experience those opportunities. This fueled my decision to apply to this program because I was interested in seeing a world outside of the world that I grew up in. I needed to see that there was more in this world than Maryland or even the United States. So, I decided to apply to start the journey of making my dreams a reality. As we began the process of applying and filling out the application for a Passport, I was excited because it meant that I could be free and explore the world. I could see everything if I wanted to, which made me so excited because I’m the type of person who wants to experience everything completely. Now that I have completed the process and my passport is being processed, I’m even more excited to explore travel abroad opportunities at my university because I now can see the world. Now that I have completed this process with your organization, I think it's important to have a passport. As humans, sometimes it is easy to forget that there is more to life than just working or your daily routine. There is a whole world outside of your world, but oftentimes we become so wrapped up and comfortable that we lose sight of the outside world. But, having a passport is a way to remember that you are not confined to your home city, state, or country, you are free to see everything, do everything, and enjoy the world.

As for my travel plans, I have limited plans since I will be moving to Chicago for school in a few months. But, I hope to study abroad in my sophomore year of college, hopefully in Spain or Portugal.

My experience with LTL was lit from the very beginning. they make meeting new people and creating friendships fun. my first trip with them was amazing one of our activities on the first trip was zip lining and I have a terrible fear of heights so I was crazy scared but some encouraging words from the group and seeing Uncle D just as scared as me helped me get over some fears. Also, LTL creates a lot of opportunities for city kids like myself. they helped me get my passport and took me out of the country for the very first time to Jamaica and it was great. I enjoyed being in the schools helping with the kids and staying on the resort just the whole experience. LTL is great with experiences and is 10/10 highly recommended.

Being a part of LTL is more than just travel. I’ve built bonds with people whom I now consider family. I’ve learned many things, not only about myself but about people and the world as a whole. Since going to Belize with Ms. B and the Gang, I have become more passionate about traveling and seeing all that this world has to offer. I have also gained some knowledge about networking and building healthy relationships with the people around us because there is so much talent, support, and overall dope people all around. I realized more and more that perspective is important, and traveling allows us to see life from different angles and viewpoints. All in all, being a part of Learning to Live Movement has truly been a huge part of my life and without this opportunity, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

LTL gave me a life-changing experience with my trip to Belize. I loved how clean the water was, how clean the food was, how dope the people were, and what I did down there. The trip to Belize changed my perspective on life. Traveling out of the country made me realize that there is so much more to life. I would recommend that everyone should travel out of the country at least once in their life, just so they can see what happens.
